Peeblesshire News Column 15th May

Hello from the Peebles COVID-19 Mutual Support Group

What a week it has been here at Support HQ. We do hope that you are all keeping safe, healthy and are well. As a group remember we are always here to help as you stay home and stay safe.

One of the exciting parts of the week was the delivery of the Special Edition Peebles Life. This featured stories of our volunteers and people receiving support, as well as highlighting people doing their bit to show appreciation for the NHS and Key workers, at the front line in fighting this pandemic. Over 4000 Special Edition booklets was delivered last weekend to homes in the Peebles and surrounding areas. We have had some great feedback on its content. Any spares will be in our local supermarkets.

Lots of things going on this week. As a group we have helped the Food Foundation delivery over 400 freshly cooked lunchtime meals which are free of charge to anyone who wants them,

Our volunteers have delivered just short of 100 Evening Meals prepared by the Tontine in association with the Peebles Community Trust

The Stuart Netball Club continue to do a fantastic job delivering prescriptions. The prescriptions are now coming with a sticker providing the Peebles COVID-19 Mutual Support Groups contact details. So we can let more people know about this group and the help it offers. If you or someone you know needs assistance with shopping, prescription collection, dog walking, signing up to the free evening meal service or just for a chat then call us on 0800 009 6709 or signup at

We continue to provide a dozen or more daily shopping requests. As lockdown and self-isolation continue our volunteers collect the essentials for those requesting help. Many volunteers have built up great friendships with those they are assisting. Ask us for help, you may find another friend!

Scottish Borders Council continue to use support groups like ours and throughout the borders to help them in their fight to continue providing essential services. If you are shielding and have not received a letter or have received the letter but not managed to receive services, then. Call 0300 100 1800 and press 7 to get through to their dedicated COVID-19 response team.

Plenty more happening. At the time of writing we have car stickers being produced and should be ready to obtain hopefully by the time this edition of the Peeblesshire hits the shelves. More information will be on our Facebook Page where to collect them from.

Now its Competition time! Primary 1 to 7 – we need you! We want you to come up with ‘My Lockdown Story’; We’d love you to share with us what you have been doing during lockdown, either as a picture or a one-page story. You choose!
