Welcome to our column the Peebles COVID-19 Mutual Support Group
This week we want you to help us Get Peebles Talking.
Firstly however, it has been a great week for food deliveries. The Monday Bank Holiday saw our first ever 100 meal delivery from the Food Foundations Meals on Wheels, with 49 evening meals, prepared by the Tontine Hotel. All delivered by our great team of volunteers. The previous week saw over 700 freshly prepared meals delivered. A. big thank you have to go to those that are making this happen behind the scenes at the Food Bank and the Tontine as well as our volunteers ensure the food get delivered with a smile.
So as we mentioned last week we want to Get Peebles Talking and for social media use we have the hash tag #GetPeeblesTalking.
While word of the Support Group and the kinds of help it is providing individuals and families is growing fast, we know there are many folks in Peebles and surroundings that are harder to reach. Maybe they are not online? Maybe they don’t think the Group applies to them? Or maybe they feel there are others whose needs are greater, and so don’t ask, even though help would be welcome. We want you to help spread the word about the Peebles Covid-19 Mutual Support Group. We want to #GetPeeblesTalking
In the coming weeks, we will be sharing tips and ideas from around the community to help you #GetPeeblesTalking. This week, we want to encourage you to have a “street greet” or a “stair share”. Knock on the doors of a few of your neighbours, or pop a note through their letter box, inviting them to a bring a cup of coffee outside and have a blether – socially distanced of course – How are you all doing? Have you seen the Support Group posters or face book site? Did you know the kinds of things the Group is doing? Picking up shopping, collecting prescriptions, organising evening meals, even there just for a friendly chat?
Let us know how you get on. Share your stories. We are keen to hear from you! Help us help Peebles, and #GetPeeblesTalking
Also don’t forget about our competitions. Have you nominated your hero volunteer? Who has gone that extra mile to help you get through this situation? We want you to help us find the star volunteer of the week. Ideally with their permission, a little headshot or picture of them in action would be useful.
We also want primary children’s entries for ‘My Lockdown Story’; We’d love them to share with us what they have been doing during lockdown, either as a picture or a one-page story.
For the winners of the children’s competition we have 3 x £10 Caldwells ice cream vouchers kindly donated by A Gift for Peebles for the family to enjoy an ice cream delivery.
In both cases send your submissions via email it to email@example.com. We’ll be sharing the pictures and stories on our Facebook page, website, and in the press helping us to keep Peebles connected. Please remember to Include the first name and your age for the children competition and your full name for the Star Volunteer of the week,
Next week we will let start sharing some of the great pictures and giving link to some of s great stories we have received.
