Peeblesshire News Column 3rd July

We hope you have had a great week and welcome to the column of the Peebles COVID-19 Mutual Support Group weekly column.

This week we want to look at community. Peebles thrives on community spirit; the recent virtual Beltane Festival is an example. But also, the way we have come together as a community and helped each other out during the current crises. No Airs and Graces, we have got on with it. We are all in this together and we will all come out of this together. Despite the fact we are easing out of lockdown we still need community support.

As part of a community you are part of a great support network. Support means everything when you are vulnerable or even just feeling a little off colour. Our volunteers are there to ensure we can support you when you need it most. And support comes in many ways. Please don’t be afraid to ask, no matter how small or large the request.

We said last week we would announce the 3 winners of our competition. ‘My Lockdown Story’. The 3 winners are Evie and her poem FREE, Brodie and his lockdown Lego cartoon and The Gibson Children’s story, who will receive the £10 Caldwell’s ice cream vouchers kindly donated by A Gift for Peebles for the family to enjoy. However, we thought all the entries were great, so we have decided to award all the other entries a £5 Caldwell’s ice cream vouchers for making it so difficult to choose the winners.

All the winning entries can be seen on our FB page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/PeeblesCovidSupport/

We are going to run the competition again throughout July. Entries close on the 31st July and we will announce the winners for the July entries. And here is the exciting new news is we will also announce the overall winner of ALL the entries (from May, June and July) who will win an engraved trophy. Come on get your entries in.

To enter the competition, send your submissions via email it to support@peeblessupport.org.

We wanted to al remind you the Peebles COVID-19 Mutual Support Group is here and ready to provide support no matter what the request. But we can’t do this alone. We have posters and banners all over town but one of the best ways to let others know about our service is word of mouth, we want you to keep talking and let your friends and neighbours know what we are here for. What a great way to #GetPeeblesTalking.

If you self-isolating due to illness or other reasons, then use the Peebles COVID-19 Mutual Support Group number 0800 009 6709 to request support. This support is available to everyone no matter what the problem is. No challenge is too big.

Finally stay safe and remember that help is just a phone call away.
