Welcome to the column of the Peebles COVID-19 Mutual Support Group
We want to continue this week to Get Peebles Talking. And we need you to help!
As the nation enters the new phases to move us all out of lockdown, it does not mean we can be complacent and stop looking out for each other. This group will be here to help as long as it is needed, and we need you to help spread that word.
One of the ways we believe has had a positive effect is the friendships and build-up of relationships between people in our community. We also want to make sure that everyone knows about our service. So we have started the Get Peebles Talking Campaign using the social media tag #GetPeeblesTalking.
There are a number of ways you can do this:-
Say Hello when walking at a safe distance past someone
Crack up conversation whilst waiting in the supermarket queue
Slip a note through someone door locally to you just to check if they are all right or need something
Knock on your neighbour’s door, step back to a safe distance and have a doorstep conversation.
Speak to your neighbours across the fence with coffee in hand.
Call someone locally you know but haven’t spoken to in a while
Then make sure you mention the group and its activities at some stage of the conversation. Ask if they have seen our posters, if you have used the service share your experience with them.
Let us know how you get on. Share your stories. We are keen to hear from you! Help us help Peebles, and #GetPeeblesTalking
We also want to remind you about our competitions. Have you nominated your hero volunteer? Who has gone that extra mile to help you get through this situation? We want you to help us find the star volunteer of the week. Ideally with their permission, a little headshot or picture of them in action would be useful.
We also want primary children’s entries for ‘My Lockdown Story’; We’d love them to share with us what they have been doing during lockdown, either as a picture or a one-page story.
For the winners of the children’s competition we have 3 x £10 Caldwell’s ice cream vouchers kindly donated by A Gift for Peebles for the family to enjoy an ice cream delivery.
In both cases send your submissions via email it to email@example.com. We’ll be sharing the pictures and stories on our Facebook page, website, and in the press helping us to keep Peebles connected. Please remember to Include the first name and your age for the children competition and your full name for the Star Volunteer of the week,
If you self-isolating due to illness or other reasons, then use the Peebles COVID-19 Mutual Support Group number 0800 009 6709 to request support. This support is available to everyone no matter what the problem is. No challenge is too big.
Finally stay safe and remember that help is just a phone call away.
